Flameless candles can create a candle-style display without an exposed flame. The U.S. Fire Administration encourages considering battery-operated alternatives to lit candles. For a wedding, the practical questions are also about fit, power, appearance and who switches every unit on.

Confirm the venue's requirements

Ask whether the venue permits the proposed battery-powered décor and where it may be placed. Flameless does not mean every product suits every setting. Check whether the item is intended for indoor or outdoor use, and follow its instructions about temperature and moisture. Do not rely on decorative candles to light paths or replace required venue lighting. Keep table layouts and circulation routes approved by the venue.

Measure the complete display

Compare each candle's diameter and height with its holder or lantern. Account for the base and battery access, not just the visible upper section. Try one sample beside the centerpiece and table number. If a set contains three heights, confirm the quantity of each height rather than assuming every table can use the same arrangement. Avoid holders that make the controls inaccessible once the room is set.

Test appearance and controls

Look at the sample in lighting similar to the reception. Compare the color of the light, flicker effect and visibility from a seated position. Test a remote from the intended operating position and check whether one remote controls the whole set or only matching units. A timer may start its cycle when activated; read the specific instructions instead of assuming it runs according to the wedding schedule.

Make a battery plan

Record battery type and quantity per unit, whether batteries are included, and the manufacturer's operating guidance. Twenty candles using two batteries each require 40 installed batteries before any spares. Check battery compartments close securely. Keep loose and spare batteries out of children's reach. The CPSC has warned about specific flameless candle sets with accessible coin batteries; consult current recall and product information when choosing a particular model.

Assign setup and shutdown

Test every unit before packing and identify any that behave inconsistently. Pack remotes with a labeled instruction sheet and nominate the person who turns the display on. Include time to walk the room and check all tables. At collection, turn units off and follow their instructions for longer-term battery storage. Keep the model details and manual with the set so another owner can use it correctly if you resell it.
