Plan a wedding card box and collection handoff

A card box needs a plan for the envelopes inside it. Choose the location and a trusted person to manage the handoff before buying the container. Decorative features should support that plan rather than substitute for it.
Estimate the space you need
Think in households rather than assuming every guest will bring a separate envelope. Attendance still does not predict how many cards will arrive, so leave some spare capacity. Compare the box's internal dimensions and slot size with ordinary greeting-card envelopes. A seller's estimate of how many cards fit is only a guide because envelopes vary in size and thickness. Check that the access opening is large enough to remove cards without bending them.
Choose a manageable construction
Look at how the box assembles, how its lid closes and whether it can be lifted comfortably when full. A delicate decorative box may need a tray beneath it for transport. A lock may help manage access, but it is not a guarantee against theft or loss. If there is a key, assign it to the person responsible and keep a spare separately. Avoid leaving the only key in packaging that might be discarded.
Agree a visible location
Ask the venue where a card area can sit within normal event activity. An unattended table near a public entrance may be a poor choice. Keep the box away from drinks, crowded service areas and surfaces likely to be moved. Add a short label so guests understand its purpose. If you expect physical gifts too, identify a separate space for them rather than piling packages around the box opening.
Make the handoff explicit
Name one primary person and one backup to collect the box at a specific stage of the event. Agree where it goes next and who receives it. That might mean a venue-approved secure area or a direct handoff to a family member; confirm the arrangement with the people involved. Do not assume staff will take custody. Keep details about where gifts are stored out of public signage.
Use what you already own when suitable
A sturdy existing container can work if it meets the same requirements for capacity, handling and placement. If purchasing, consider whether the box can be reused for keepsakes without retaining exposed personal information. After the event, separate cards from packing materials before anything is recycled. Record gifts privately for thank-you notes, and return any borrowed container only after checking it is empty.
